Why Pick Us?

What are grooming salons looking for in a new hire? At the international
grooming academy, we want to ensure that all our students are provided with individual options
that are catered to their needs and skill set or confidence levels. We also want to set those
students up with realistic, real world expectations of what they will be able to achieve once they
have completed their training.

We are owners and operators of multiple grooming salons and
know exactly what we look for when hiring as well as our friends around Australia. When hiring
a staff member to enter the salon as a 'trained and/or qualified dog groomer' with less than a
year experience, we would expect that person to be capable of bringing in enough money to
make them a profitable employee. We would expect that this person was capable of grooming
3-4 dogs in a day without a bather to assist. We would expect that they would require a senior to
work alongside them to answer questions and to 'judge' their grooms prior to going home to the
owners. And within a month of working full time they would be expected to complete 4-5 full
grooms per day without a bather and with very minimal supervision.

We ensure that any of our

students that wish to be hired into the grooming industry as a dog groomer are provided with the
training necessary to achieve this. If this is the path you are looking to take please ensure you
ask our training staff what course would be suited to you to be able to achieve this. We
also encourage you to ask other training schools you may be considering if their course will set
you up to achieve this upon completion of training. Most courses that are available by popular
demand do not create a groomer that is hirable upon completion. Most will set you up to be
capable of assisting senior grooming staff and completing maybe 1-2 well behaved grooms per
day. Know what you're signing up for so that you can know what to expect when seeking a job
after training.

We operate quite differently to the other grooming schools in the country. We are quite
adaptable to the individual student. Therefore we provide options that are catered to you.
We can do private or group, in your salon or in ours, full time or part time, full days or part
days. Therefore, it really depends on what you're after. Our most popular option is part
time in our salon one on one or in our 5 week block to receive a full Certificate III. If you have no experience and are just wanting to see if you
like the industry we suggest the 10 day training. If you're wanting to open your own
business or enter into the industry during the peak summer season then we recommend
the 25 day practical training paired with the Heiniger Academy Certificate III course. If you're opening your own business we also have business training
available as well.

The training is offered in three locations, however, our new main
location will be in Malop Street, Geelong CBD. The date of the training will depend on
exactly what you're after.

Here at IGAs' Grooming School we offer a wide range of education and training. Below you will find some more information in regards to our practical only courses. Courses are run over 5, 10 or 20 days and are all 90% hands on with the addition of theory and written assessment components. Courses are set in a group environment and are quite intense in their content.

Courses are designed for those aspiring students who are not quite sure if grooming is the career path for them and they don't wish to commit to a lengthy course. Our courses are suited to those aspiring students with little to no background knowledge in dog grooming or for those who feel they lacked a foundation in training and wish to know more.

Our courses can be used as a building block in a pathway towards your Certificate III in Dog Grooming. Students can also be trained up to complete their international certification exams through to Masters level. Contact us to find out more.
